CTIC 2002 SBC Award: Achievements and Lasting Impact

By admin, octubre 4, 2024

Humberto Ribeiro de Souza was awarded second place for the best undergraduate computer science project in Brazil by the prestigious Brazilian Computing Society (SBC), the nation’s leading organization for advancements in software and computer engineering.

The CTIC competition, held annually, is a highly competitive event involving teams from both public and private universities across Brazil. With a strict limit of up to 12 professionals and students recognized per year, the competition honors only the most innovative and technically proficient projects.

In 2002, the competition’s level of prodigality was exceptional, and achieving 2nd place was a significant accomplishment. However, Souza’s success extended beyond this achievement. He built upon the forward-thinking Swimming Speed Measurement System presented in the competition, developing a patented solution and a suite of equipment that was later used for years by the world’s top marathon swimmers, including those at Unisanta University in Santos, Brazil.

Below are the translated copies of the award and its detailed description.
